Lesson 8- Painting Your Interior's.

Painting work is generally taken as the decorative activity or as the make up of the surface of the walls. First step is to choose the appropriate colors for your walls and interior's ... matching with your plans, furniture, flooring etc. For getting the perfect colors on your walls.. to give them a smooth look one should know the proper painting procedure...otherwise you may mess up with your plans & painting.

If following steps taken into consideration ... which is proper procedure of painting, then you will get the desired walls for your interiors. Prepare the surface before painting & that includes the following:

  1. Scrubbing : Scrub the wall with a sand paper  to eliminate uneven spots and dirt. It gives a smooth surface to work on and this  helps in gripping of paint for a long time.
  2. Filling the walls : Fill up the holes of walls to get the smooth surface with wall putty, etc.
  3. Applying the premier : After scrubbing and filling the wall holes don't forget to apply premier for getting better results on your painted walls.

Applying coats of paint : Normally three coats of paint are applied on surface after applying premier and filling  up the holes. The first two coats are applied by brush and the final coat by the roller. Follow this method of painting for your smoother and great looking walls.
  • The first coat of paint is applied with brush from top to bottom.
  • Second coat is applied with brush from left to right.
  • Final third coat is applied with roller from top to bottom.

Distemper : Applying distemper over the plaster surface is more easy and with lesser cost than painting. To safe guard walls against weather effects and to improve their appearance. Distemper are like water paints which consists of whiting glue which acts as a blinder and suitable fast colors pigments. Distemper are readily available in different varieties of shades in the form of stiff paste or dry paste in tins.

Precautions : Painting is never a difficult task to do, but it needs few precautions before you start with your work. Before painting is done the disease of the surface of the wall should be tackled like dampness due to rains and subsoil moisture etc. creates most of the problems after painting is done. All the dampness and leakage which causes problem starts reacting after finishing is done. After rectification of these problems painting should be started. Repainting a surface requires less preparation than the fresh wall is painted. But the surface should be cleaned well and scrubbed with sand paper properly before painting is done.

Wait..wait..wait.. do you think ..its over .. naah..not now..few more things. What do you think .. painting is done for... just for giving decorative looks to your walls & interiors.. is that so..!! Think about it .. there are few more purpose behind painting .

  1. To hide the defects on the surface of the walls which is to be painted. Defects are like rough or patchy strains, cracks or holes, wrong level and ugly offsets and hence to over come these painting is the best medium to get the desired looks.
  2. To protect and strengthen the wall against sunlight heat, dryness, humidity etc.
  3. To create desired mood according to the room requirements.
  4. To give life to the exteriors of your residence. Because many architectural features are to be highlighted otherwise exterior may look lifeless and dull.
  5. To highlight a piece of wall or a nish.
